The Rhinos Report

Hello and welcome to SCROOMtimes' San Jose Rhinos Weekly Report. This is the place to stay up to date on all of the doings of our favorite RHI franchise.

It was a good, if quiet, week for our boys in purple. Coach Guy Gadowsky must have had a long talk with the lads about playing for the whole 48 minutes after their 8 to 7 shootout loss to the Minnesota Blue Ox at the Arena on Saturday, June 19. Fans will remember that the Rhinos dominated that game throughout, only to let it all slip away through an uninspired fourth period effort.

That certainly wasn't the case this week. I'll admit that it was with a certain hesitation that my comrade and I made our way to the arena this past Thursday. After all, the East leading St. Louis Vipers were in town. The Vipers boasted one of the league's leading scorers in Christian Skoryna, and one of the top goalies with James Jenson. After their effort against the Blue Ox, the Rhinos could have been in for a long night.

We needn't have worried. The Rhinos came out smoking, scoring the first four goals on a shellshocked Jensen and going into halftime with a 6 to 1 lead en route to a 12 to 4 victory over the Vipers. The Rhinos were fueled by the all-out play of Jonathon Dubois, who scored a goal and assisted on two more. More importantly, he led the team in "number of times his helmet went flying off his head," with three. This refreshing example of hustle and insanity earns him this week's "Mr. Chaos" award, our weekly homage to the original "Mr. Chaos", Sasha Lakovic. The award will honor the player of limited offensive numbers who goes out and plays crazy for 48 minutes every week.

The scoring was led by Tomas Kapusta with 3 goals and 4 assists for a total of 7 points. The Rhinos will need that sort of effort again this week as they travel to Dallas to take on the Dallas Stallions Thursday and then come home to host the Chicago Bluesmen on Saturday at the arena.
