A while back, we reviewed an independent film by Doug Atchison called THE PORNOGRAPHER. Now, we have received word that the film is due to hit the shelves at Hollywood Video on Sept 19. Here is the press release that we received:

Hollywood Video has just signed an exclusive agreement to distribute Integrity Pictures provocative, critically acclaimed film THE PORNOGRAPHER on video and DVD through its First Rites program.

Bold and unflinching not only describes THE PORNOGRAPHER itself, but also Hollywood Video for its support of such a controversial film, says David Rimawi, head of acquisitions for the First Rites program in North America.

First Rites was developed by Australia s fast growing multi-media company, Tribe, who have partnered with Los Angeles based production/distribution company The Asylum and Hollywood Entertainment to bring their concept to the US. First Rites features the best in independent films by first time directors.

THE PORNOGRAPHER is the story of one man s descent into the world of pornography, initially as a voyeur, but finally as the pornographer of the title.

I wanted to make a movie about loneliness and temptation ­ and a character whose misguided search for love leads him into a world of exploitation, explains director Doug Atchison about his not quite autobiographical film.

THE PORNOGRAPHER recently finished a year-long festival run, which included sold-out screenings at the Montreal World Film Festival, the Munich Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, as well as a Best Feature Filmaward at the 1999 Arizona Film Festival.

The deal was brokered by Neil Friedman of Menemsha Entertainment, who specializes in the management of filmmakers, as well as arranging financing and worldwide sales of independent features.

THE PORNOGRAPHER will be available starting September 19th on the new release wall of all Hollywood Video stores.
